College Fraternities Deserve Recognition, Too
We spend a lot of time showcasing cords, stoles, and medallions for top-ranked students, but did you know that college fraternities often give their graduating members a chance to stand out on graduation day, too?
College fraternities, or also known as “frats” or “Greek life,” are social organizations that bind together members with a common interest. Dating back to the 1700s, fraternities were a hybrid organization that mixed literary societies and dining/social clubs with limited membership to men. Interested students typically went through a series of tests, trials, and interviews before being accepted, as membership was ultimately a lifelong commitment of what was often described as a “brotherhood.” Fraternities have historically held secret initiations for new members, despite wide opposition from university administrators, often generating negative “party hard” stereotypes.
Today, the vast majority of fraternities don’t condone any type of negative connotation that comes with the name, and instead, focus on the charity and leadership qualities they bring to members and local chapter communities. You’ll often see Greek organizations holding community service events and hosting leadership seminars throughout the academic year. Fraternities also offer affordable, off-campus living in chapter houses, which can be desirable for attracting new members.
One of the most popular fraternities, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, describes their organization as, “Through friendship, scholarship, leadership, and service, SAE finds men with impeccable character and helps them achieve their full potential, letting them rise up to face every challenge placed before them -- today and tomorrow. We achieve this by grooming our members to become True Gentlemen.”
As a way to recognize their members’ fraternal commitment and service to Greek life, chapter leaders often give graduating seniors honor cords, stoles, or medallions matching the organization’s colors to wear over their traditional cap and gown.
Our team continues to operate with a modified business solution, complete with remote and isolated order processing locations. Our goal is to safely deliver honor and recognition gear to schools and institutions to have ready for their students once graduation dates have been reworked. We understand the importance of graduation regalia and what it means to students and faculty and want graduates to mark their accomplishments in a way in which they deserve.
What better way to bind together the fraternal brotherhood right now, than with honor cords and custom stoles? Host a virtual chapter meeting and wear your recognition gear proudly!
